Die IEC ist auf internationaler Ebene die Organisation für Normung für eletrotechnische Normen (für nichtelektrotechnische Normen ist es die ISO - International Standard Organization).Das Deutsche Institut für Normung (DIN) ist eine Normungsorganisation auf deutscher Ebene.Daneben gibt es auf europäischer Ebene das Europäische Komitee für Normung, CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation) .
