Dual Tone Multi Frequency
translated "double tone multifrequency", is a tone dialling method of analog telephone technology and is commonly used as a dialling technique for transmitting the telephone number to the telephone network or a telephone system. When dialling a number or key, two tones are used simultaneously to code a key (double tone). The two tone frequencies are derived from the position of this key using a meanwhile standardized key layout.
