Die ISO ist auf internationaler Ebene die Organisation für Normung für nichtelektrotechnische Normen (für elektrotechnische Normen ist es die IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission).Das Deutsche Institut für Normung (DIN) ist eine Normungsorganisation auf deutscher Ebene.Daneben gibt es auf europäischer Ebene das Europäische Komitee für Normung, CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation).
